In the free antivirus realm, Avira has settled a position long time ago. The full featured nature of Avira free antivirus makes it very popular among home users, and anyone else who wouldn’t want to spend money on an antivirus program. However, Avira has paid versions of their security programs as well, that comes with more organized features alongside strengthened security. Bitdefender Antivirus Free is a very basic antivirus program with the antivirus engine from its paid iterations. The scanning techniques are same, but there aren’t as many features as the paid versions such as Bitdefender Internet Security in the Bitdefender Antivirus Free edition.
Here’s a comparison review on Avira Antivirus vs. Bitdefender Antivirus products.
Bitdefender has a pretty simple and straightforward pricing plan, so does Avira. Bitdefender has one free product – the Bitdefender Antivirus Free. Rest of the security products are paid. Bitdefender Antivirus Plus is the paid antivirus module with the most basic of other antimalware modules; pricing $39.95 for 1 PC per year and $59.95 for 3 PC per year. Bitdefender Internet Security takes care of PC and network security at a price tag of $59.95 per year for 1 PC and $79.95 for 3 PC per year.
Avira Antivirus comes for free, the most popular one and the basic one. The paid products from Avira are mostly suites; e.g. the Avira Internet Security Suite comes for $40.99 and Avira Antivirus Pro comes for $31.99. A system tune up utility called Avira System Speedup is also available in the store for only $22.99. However, all these pricing are for 1 device per year.
Both these antivirus programs offer support for a wide range of devices. Bitdefender products support Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Android. However, for the 2016 product range of Bitdefender Security, the computer must run Windows 7 or above. Previous Windows versions are not supported by Bitdefender.
On the other hand, Avira adds iOS on top the operating systems mentioned for Bitdefender. This gives the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users an opportunity to secure their device with a free antivirus product that’s very well known for providing reputed security services.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free offers file and folder scanning. Even though there aren’t any dedicated interface on the program interface for that, user needs to right click on the file or folder to be scanned and click on Scan with Bitdefender from there. Autopilot feature on Bitdefender stays active in the background and keeps eyes on the security aspects of a computer system. Not very convenient for manual scanning, but just to have something for security nothing can get any better.
On the other hand, Avira Free Antivirus comes with a lot of features. Apart from basic scanning, Avira blocks any suspicious websites that contain threat of malware attack. Also, payments are monitored and any intrusion would be notified.
For added number of features, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus might be a better option. It has antivirus protection, a basic firewall, basic modules of anti-rootkit, anti-spyware etc. and features like Safepay to keep online transactions safer.
Avira wins the free antivirus game in this comparison review, while Bitdefender secures it pride with the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus.
